About Fanta

Fanta is an adoptable female Pit Bull Terrier looking for a home at Philadelphia Animal Care and Control in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She is fully grown and medium in size. She is currently on the shelter's euthanasia list with only 4 days left, listed due to lack of space. Adopting Fanta, or even sharing her story, could save a life before it's too late.

Fanta ACCT-A-260922 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to length of stay and lack of space for incoming dogs. Fanta must have confirmed placement with a RESCUE PARTNER or ADOPTER by Tuesday, October 6th 2026 at 10AM. Should Fanta's medical or behavioral status change, her urgency and timeline for placement may also change. Meet Fanta, a gentle girl who is looking for a patient person who will give her the time and space she needs to feel comfortable. Fanta is a very shy and sensitive dog, and the shelter environment can be overwhelming for her. When she first arrived, she was clearly nervous and unsure of her surroundings, but with time and gentle handling, we've started to see her come out of her shell. Fanta is a quiet, low-energy companion who walks gently and calmly on leash. She is easy to leash and handle, and she has shown that she knows how to sit and even enjoys playing fetch once she feels comfortable. On a recent outing, she warmed up enough to enjoy playing with a ball, showing that there is a playful side to this sweet girl just waiting to emerge. Fanta isn't the type of dog who will immediately rush over looking for attention. She tends to keep some distance from people and may need time to build trust before she's comfortable with handling and affection. She is very gentle and has never shown aggression, but she can be avoidant when she's feeling overwhelmed. Her new family should be prepared to let her set the pace and celebrate the small victories as her confidence grows. Because Fanta is especially sensitive and shy, she is recommended for an adult-only home where she can enjoy a calm, predictable environment without the activity and noise that can come with young children. She would do best with adopters who understand that earning her trust will be a process and who are willing to give her the patience, consistency, and reassurance she needs. If you're looking for a quiet companion and have a soft spot for the shy ones, Fanta could be a very special girl to welcome into your life. She may need some time to show you who she really is, but the glimpses we've seen of her sweet and playful personality make her worth getting to know. Videos: Fanta and Tootsie Roll leash meet: Fanta play time: Sweet Fanta: Behavior Notes: Walksheet notes: 9/7 - low energy, neutral leash meet with Tootsie Roll 9/9 - low energy, good girl, just very shy 9/10 - low energy, avoidant, not food motivated, very shy 9/11 - no issues noted 9/11 - low energy, very avoidant, shy 9/18 - low/medium energy, warmed up, knows sit, fetched a ball, enjoyed playing, peed and pooped outside asap 9/20 - very good girl 9/21 - low energy, really gentle, easy to walk, neutral through fence towards other dog 9/23 - low energy 9/24 - love her Per volunteer 9/11/26: She was lying down in her kennel when I approached and calmly got up. I very easily looped her, and she patiently waited and stepped out of her kennel. She tries to make space between other people/me as we walk through the kennels. Outside, we got to the play yard and she went right to the exit door to wait. She did not show any interest in the pepperoni that I dropped. Shy girl with neutral body language much of the time we just we interacted. Didn't show any interest in toys either. A few birds were playing in the playground and she made no movement towards them. Walks very gently on leash without any pulling. Went into the volunteer office and she remained avoidant. Easily walked back into her kennel without trying to walk back out. Per staff 9/10/26: Kennel Presentation: On the bed side of her kennel as the front side was being cleaned. Sitting with her back on the door. I called her name and she slowly turned with wide eyes, furrowed brow and ears to the side. Sniffed the treat, however did not eat it. Leash Skills: Easy to leash and came right out of kennel. Moderately pulled on leash. Immediately went to the bathroom. Sociability: Asocial. Spent most of the time mingling around the yard with her nose to the ground. I was able to do a few gently pets, her tail was high and slowly wagged and then she moved away. Brought her into the volunteer room to see if being inside would be different. She still mingled around the room not interested in interactng. Play: n/a Dog Interaction: Saw a few dogs would stop with ears forward, high tail. Able to move away with leash pressure. Return to Kennel: Went right into kennel and removed leash with hand. Color Level: Exp Gold Per staff 9/5/26: Upon intake, the patient was walking with her tail tucked, ears down, trembling, and avoiding eye contact. While she shows no signs of aggression, she exhibits clear signs of anxiety: panting, lip smacking, and avoiding eye contact. Although she arrived as a stray, she wore a harness and appears kennel-trained, suggesting she was possibly previously owned. Once placed in her kennel, she began whining frequently. Given these behaviors, I suspect she may have separation anxiety or is simply overwhelmed by the shelter environment. To help her settle in, I have started her on Trazodone (5 mg/kg PO) for the next 3 days. Per finder 9/5/26: Found as a stray while traveling. Noted that she pulls on leash. ' Due to being significantly overcapacity with dogs and cats and higher than usual intake, extensions are unlikely to be granted.
