About Monii

Monii is an adoptable male American Staffordshire Terrier looking for a home at Philadelphia Animal Care and Control in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is fully grown and large in size. He is currently on the shelter's euthanasia list with just one day left, listed due to lack of space. Adopting Monii, or even sharing his story, could save a life before it's too late.

Monii ACCT-A-263000 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to length of stay and lack of space for incoming dogs. Monii must have confirmed placement with a RESCUE PARTNER or ADOPTER by Sunday, October 25th 2026 at 10AM. Should Monii's medical or behavioral status change, his urgency and timeline for placement may also change. Monii is a handsome boy with a sweet side, a smart mind, and a serious love for treats and stuffed toys! While he can be a little shy when first meeting new people, he has shown that he warms up with patience and kindness. Once he feels more comfortable, Monii enjoys leaning in for pets, seeking out treats, and showing off his skills. He already knows how to sit and is very food-motivated, making him a great candidate for continued training and relationship-building. He has also started showing off his playful side, enjoying tossing stuffed toys around, inspecting their squeakers, and occasionally breaking out into a few happy zoomies in the yard! Monii has a medium energy level and would benefit from a home that can provide him with regular activity, enrichment, and continued leash training, as he can pull when excited. He may be a little unsure of sudden movements and loud noises, and busy environments can become overwhelming for him, so a calmer setting where he can settle in at his own pace may help him shine. He has shown positive social skills with other dogs in playgroup, including loose body language, play bows, and the ability to take breaks and move away when he wants space. As with any dog, thoughtful introductions would help set him up for success. This sweet boy has so much potential and is continuing to build confidence with each positive experience. Monii would love an adult-only home with a patient, understanding adopter who will celebrate his progress, give him time to feel safe, and help him discover just how wonderful life can be. In return, you'll get a smart, treat-loving companion with a playful personality and plenty of love to give! Bouncy moves. play bows and pauses. Tolerant. Per volunteer 10/5/26: Monii is at the front of his kennel, and very excited, but no issues leashing him. He's a bit of a puller and a bigger boy, so a harness might work better for him and his handler. In the yard, he found a stuffed toy and had a great time flinging it, bounding around with it, then laying down and chewing on it. When he found a second toy, he became the squeaker inspector going back and forth between the two. He was better taking treats, not as grabby. I keep the treat in a closed fist. When he stops grabbing for it, I open my fist and he eats it from my open palm. No issues at all returning him. He walked into his kennel, and I took the lease over his head with no issues. Playgroup 10.5: Steer test 4/5 with water and 2-3/5 with can good gate greetings. loose body, soft eyes and ears to the side. play bows and pauses Per staff 10/5/26: I am assuming he became over simulated due to the amount of people filing in to the adoption center, pick ups were starting and there was a day trip return so a lot of people coming in and out with animals. His focus was on the crowd outside of the room after about 10 minutes interacting with the perspective adopters and there was 4 of us in the meet and greet room. Per staff 10/5/26 (Regarding adoption meet): During meet when he was over simulated, his tail became untuck but tight to his hind, giving some low wags, his mouth was open with a little panting and some drool. he was bouncing between two corners of the room the adopters did read in as playing and tried to toss him a squeaky toy which he did show interest in but he began exit searching and focusing on the door. I was able to grab his leash and exit, he did scramble a little in the kennel but using treats he was easy to distract and shift focus on walking with me. No issues returning to kennel, went right in. Per staff 10/4/26 (Regarding adoption meet): Monii made improvements in greeting everyone in the room. did take treats gently and no issues returning to kennel, got over simulated in m&g room and ended meet. adopters gave space and allowed him to approach on own time Playgroup 10/4: 3-4/5 with water and 2/5 with can. Good greetings, some zooms and play bows. Good at moving away, good play with Penny. Per Volunteer 10/3: took Moni out with another volunteer. Moni was a bit hesitant but warmed up quick. Came over to us both to get treats and took them gently. I let his back and butt and he circled back around and leaned in for more. He easily returned to the kennel with a step-in. Playgroup 10.2: Steer test 3/5 with water and 0/5 with can Ears to the side and low swaying tail at fence greetings. Handler oriented and moved away. Per volunteer 10/2/26: Monii was at the front of kennel, ready to come out. He gave me no issue leashing, but he comes out quickly. I've taken them out a couple of times and he was timid with a tucked tail. His tail is now wagging. We walked to the big yard. He does some pulling, but nothing excessive. He found a couple of toys that he briefly played with which was nice to see because he hadn't done that before. And he did a couple laps of short zoomies. No real i terest in fetch. He will sit when asked, and on his prior outing with me, he was grabby with treats, so I tossed them on the ground. Today I was able to keep them in my fist, wait for him to calm.a little, and then I could open palm the treats, and he took them without a hard mouth. He's a beautiful but skinny boy, so I understand his eagerness for treats. He had a very nice fence meet with a dog. He has a sign on his kennel that he needs two handlers to return. I've taken him out before and never had an issue that bad, but had a kennel attendant on standby. I clipped him before we got into his aisle and I had high value treats in my hand. He did pull back initially, but with leash pressure and verbal encouragement, he was able to move forward. We went to his kennel, I tossed in the treat, I stepped in, I applied some leash pressure and more verbal encouragement, and he went in with no issue. Playgroup 10.1: Steer test: 2/5 with water and 5/5 with can. Tail down, ears to the side. Good greetings. Mingling around. Moves away on his own. Per staff 10/1/26: Kennel Presentation: Sitting at the front of the kennel with wide eyes, ears to the side and furrowed brow. Leash Skills: Easy to leash and came right out of the kennel. Mildly pulled on leash. Zig zagging. Sociability: Tolerant of all handling. Play bows to me. Soft eyes, mid tail loosely wagging. snatchy with treats and knows sit. Play: n/a Dog Interaction: Met Adam. Hackles raised, ears back and moving away. Return to Kennel: Began pulling back when we got to his kennel. Tried stepping in and tossing treats. He pressed his body up against the wall. Needed a second handler to go back into kennel. Color Level: Exp Blue Per staff 9/28/26: Did not make it into playgroup. Came up to the fence, tail tightly tucked, ears pinned back, wide eyes. Jumped back and bared teeth when a dog barked at him. Per finder 9/26/26: Good towards strangers, animals, and children.
