Handsome is an adoptable male Pit Bull Terrier looking for a home at Philadelphia Animal Care and Control in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is fully grown and medium in size. Handsome is a sweet, playful boy who came to ACCT Philly on October 2nd after being found in someone's yard. He has been a friendly guy with staff, enjoys pets and treats, and loves playing fetch and chewing on toys. Handsome knows sit and has shown a fun, bouncy side, sometimes getting a little jumpy when excited. He generally walks well on leash, though he can pull at times, and has enjoyed getting outside to soak up the sun. Handsome has also spent a lot of time in playgroup, where he has shown loose, wiggly body language, offered play bows, and had appropriate greetings with other dogs, though he sometimes attempts to mount. Handsome has so much playful energy and affection to share, and he is ready for someone to give him the chance to shine outside the shelter. Due to his length of stay, Handsome is urgently seeking placement with a rescue partner or adopter. Per staff 10/10, playgroup: Steer test 3/5 with water and 2/5 with can. Appropriate greetings. Then he became overly interested in Winny who would not correct when he was mounting. Not able to be steered off by staff. Per staff 10/9, playgroup: Good greetings. Tolerant. Overly interested and attempting to mount Winny. Per staff 10/8: After giving a hot dog to see how he would do with a slow feed for a dog meet. As soon as he ate one, he started getting jumpy and mouthy for them, jumped at my treat pouch and at the leash (but never actually leash bit). Per staff 10/6, playgroup: Steer test 2/5 with water and 3/5 with can. Came in hot, good greetings and quick bouncy moves. Per staff 10/5, playgroup: Steer test 2/5 with water and 4/5 with can. Good gate greetings. Mid tail and soft eyes. Play bows, pauses. Tolerant and moved away on his own. Per staff 10/5: Kennel Presentation: Came to the front of his kennel with soft eyes, mid tail wags, ears back, took a treat gently through the bars. Leash Skills: Easy to leash and came right out. Walked pulling mildly on leash, mid tail wags, ears back, loose body. Sociability: Would come over when I called to him and crouched down with a loose body. Allowed all handling with a slightly tense body then did a small closed mouth head whip and got a short burst of zoomies, zooming around in a circle then jumped on me once with a loose body. Takes treats gently, knows sit. Dog Interaction: Went to playgroup. Return to Kennel: Walked back pulling mildly on leash, went right into his kennel and leash was removed by hand. Color Level: Exp Gold Per walksheet 10/4: Medium energy. Mildly jumpy. Step in to return. Per staff 10/2: Screaming/yelping when first attempted to vaccinate & jumping away, tried with muzzle but tried gator rolling so we immediately took it off and stopped. Able to do full physical exam, collar & barrier, very sweet guy who gets very excitable and can be mouthy when riled up. Per staff 10/2: Crawled over to me while calling him at the gate. Gave him some treats through the gate that he ate. Started to wag his tail. Once leashed he was happy go lucky and jumped into van.
