Beauty is a young adult dog who was surrendered due owner unable to address their medical condition. Upon arrival Beauty was diagnosed with a vaginal prolapse which was treated with reduction (twice) and spaying. Beauty has been very active in her kennel despite medications, which increases her risk of vaginal prolapse recurrence / surgical failure. Beauty has allowed all handling and seeks attention during their exams. Behaviorally, Beauty has displayed a low threshold for arousal in the kennel environment, including intense jumping, kennel fighting, and leash biting behavior, which has made it difficult to safely remove her from and return her to her kennel. Beauty was surrendered to the care center by her previous owner as they were unable to address her medical condition, a vaginal prolapse. While receiving medical attention at the care center, Beauty has been social with staff, soliciting attention and allowing all handling. Beauty's previous owners describe her as a friendly, outgoing, and affectionate dog, who spends most of her time where her people are, loves treats, bath time, and car rides, and knows many cues. At the care center, Beauty demonstrates high levels of stress and arousal while being taken out and placed back in her kennel, including persistent jumping to the top of her kennel, kennel fighting, and intense leash biting that cannot be redirected. Due to these concerns, both behaviorally and for her health, we recommend placement with a New Hope partner who can allow for decompression as she heals, provide any necessary behavior modification (force-free, positive reinforcement-based), and re-evaluate behavior in a stable home environment before placement into a permanent home.
