In the care center, Twinkle Toes has shown significant kennel stress and high arousal, including repetitive spinning, bouncing off the kennel walls and door, jumping, barking, heavy panting, and hard pulling on leash. She has also displayed lunging and hard barking toward dogs outside of the care center as well as jumping on staff incessantly during walks. Twinkle Toes responds well to training and is consistently able to redirect and engage with handlers using pattern games, touch, and engage/disengage work and is highly social with staff and her favorite volunteers. Medically, Twinkle Toes is apparently healthy. Since I'm a long stay pup, my adoption fee has been reduced! Visit me today to find out my favorite treats and how you can take me home! What my friends at ACC say about me: I'm ready to learn! I need a patient person who has the time to work on training with me. I am excitable and energetic! I will need positive outlets for my energy! I love to be loved, but on my own terms! Let's brush up on some canine body language together! I would do best in a home with only adult humans. My #BoroughBreak Buddy writes: Twinkle Toes is a social dog and professional sitter! She did not like that the day started with a few hours of rain, so we cuddled in a coffee shop with a pup cup until the sun came out. Twinkle knows basic commands like sit, down, no, but could brush up on her "leave it" skills when it comes to food dropped on the street. She loves to show you her sit and parade her bone around to people! Twinkle was good on leash, she did stare at dogs walking by and when one dog barked at her she did bark back, but nothing was difficult to manage as she was easily redirected. Twinkle is one of those dogs that are the best of both worlds in that she can keep up on a hike or just as easily couch potato with you, as long as she's with her people! She will make an excellent addition to any forever family. A volunteer writes: I had a lovely afternoon with Twinkle Toes, despite the stormy weather conditions. We went on two long walks in my neighborhood, and she was lovely throughout. She checked in with me regularly, walked beautifully on-leash, and passed people and other dogs with polite curiosity. At home, Twinkle toes started off by investigating her new environment and sniffing every inch. She found a ball that entertained her for a while. She did solicit play and affection from me, fetched the ball over and over when I threw it, then came in for some cuddles and scratches. She's a very smart girl and seemed to be enjoying training and working her brain. Twinkle Toes was a delight. For a young adult her age, her exuberance felt within normal range and she was able to relax after getting some physical and mental exercise. She was playful, affectionate, interactive, and very attentive. My favorite thing about Twinkle Toes are her floppy ears that seem to have a life of their own. I'm obsessed with how uneven they are. It was really special to see how much more relaxed Twinkle Toes was outside of the shelter environment and in a home. She's a perfect and very smart girl that would make the right family very happy. I'm really looking forward to joining her on more adventures around the borough.
