Rocky is an adoptable male Pit Bull Terrier looking for a home at Philadelphia Animal Care and Control in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is senior and medium in size. He is currently on the shelter's euthanasia list with only 2 days left, listed due to lack of space. Adopting Rocky, or even sharing his story, could save a life before it's too late.

Rocky ACCT-A-256033 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to length of stay and lack of space for incoming animals. Rocky must have confirmed placement with a RESCUE PARTNER or ADOPTER by Tuesday, September 8th 2026 at 10AM. Should Rocky's medical or behavioral status change, his urgency and timeline for placement may also change. Meet Rocky, a handsome young guy with a whole lot of love to give! Rocky is an absolute sweetheart who has been winning over our volunteers and staff with his gentle, well-behaved nature. He is generally low to medium energy, walks beautifully on leash, and is incredibly easy to handle. He loves treats and takes them gently, and he already knows a bunch of commands including sit, paw, down, stay, wait, leave it, and even his name! Rocky is an affectionate boy who loves being around his people. During one of his walks, he came over when called, leaned right into his handler for pets, and happily stayed there even when the petting stopped. His former family said that he loves hanging out with his people, napping, playing fetch and tug, and exploring outside. He enjoys all kinds of toys, especially ropes, balls, squeaky toys, bones, and plush toys. Basically, whether you're looking for a walking buddy, a playmate, or a professional couch companion, Rocky is ready to apply for the job! Rocky previously lived in a home with people of all ages as well as cats and dogs. His former family described him as kind and playful and said their ideal home for him would be a calm, loving family that can give him plenty of companionship. Rocky can be nervous or fearful in some situations, particularly with new people, and he has shown some reactivity toward other dogs while at the shelter. Because his feelings about other animals can vary, introductions should be slow and thoughtful, and his future family should be prepared to give him time to feel comfortable and understand his needs. Rocky is looking for someone who will appreciate his sweet nature and give him the consistency, patience, and companionship he needs to thrive. He has so many wonderful qualities already'he's affectionate, smart, treat-motivated, playful, and eager to please'and we think he has all the makings of a fantastic best friend. Very sweet boy. Great walk. Per volunteer 8/12: Low energy. More to himself, good on leash, no pulling, easy to get out/in of kennel. Playgroup 8/15/26: Steer Test - 1/5, Can 1/5 Tense fence greetings followed by a stiff body, ears to the side, high tense tail with little to no wags. In the yard came up to Buck G with a very tense body and high tail. After sniffing, he puffed out his chest and kicked back with his hind leg. Took him out of playgroup after this. Per staff 8/13/26: Kennel Presentation: At the front of the kennel with soft eyes and mid tail loosely wagging. Leash Skills: A little difficult to leash due to lowing his head and slightly dodging. Made the loop a little bigger and was able to leash. Came right out of kennel. Mild pulling on leash. Sociability: When I sat down on the bench and called him over to me. He came over and leaned into me. He remained leaning when I stopped petting. Play: n/a Dog Interaction: Met Daisy. Good greetings. moved away on his own. Return to Kennel: Hesitated to go back into kennel. Tossed treats in and was able to remove leash with hand. Color Level: Exp Gold Playgroup 8/13/26: Steer Test - Did not get a steer test due to needing a leash meet first. Tense, high stiff flagging tail with fence greeting, turning head away when other dogs approached the fence, lip licking. Took back inside and will need a leash meet first. Per owner 8/12/26: Rocky was surrendered by his owner of two years due to the owner no longer being able to care for him. He lived with young adults, babies, toddlers, kids, tweens, teens, cats, and dogs. He is still learning how to be potty trained, has never been in a crate, is medium energy, pulls a little on leash, enjoys dog treats, sleeps in bed with his owners and knows commands: sit, down, lay down, no, off, stay, wait, drop/leave it and his name. He likes Rope toys, Balls, Squeaky toys, Bones or other durable chew toys, Stuffed animals and plush toys as well as Exploring outdoors, Playing fetch, Playing tug-of-war, Napping, Hanging out with owners, Playing with kids, Playing with other animals. He does show signs of separation anxiety when left home alone, can be destructive of items, will sometimes get into the trash can, and occasionally has accidents in the house. He is nervous and fearful of strangers and children and it depends on the situation when it comes to how he is towards dogs and cats. His owner noted that he experiences skin irritation, itching, and hair loss. They noted that his ideal home is with a calm and loving family who can treat him well and make sure he is not lonely. Their favorite things about him is that he is kind and playful. Medical Notes: During an exam on 8/13/26, Rocky had chronic changes to both ears, including scarred pinnae, moderate dark debris, and narrowed ear canals, with infection present in both ears. Mild dental calculus was also noted. Rocky had intermittent right hind-limb weight-bearing lameness, though no obvious fracture or significant discomfort was found with palpation or manipulation, and a soft tissue injury was suspected. ' Due to being significantly overcapacity with dogs and cats and higher than usual intake, extensions are unlikely to be granted.
