Licorice is an adoptable female Bullmastiff looking for a home at Maricopa County Animal Care & Control - West in Phoenix, Arizona. She is a young adult and medium in size. She is currently on the shelter's euthanasia list with only 4 days left, listed due to behavior. Adopting Licorice, or even sharing her story, could save a life before it's too late.

These behaviors are often a response to the overwhelming sights, sounds, and confinement, along with the lack of choice or control over their environment. Although this dog continues to show appropriate behavior outside of the kennel with positive interactions with staff and volunteers,without intervention, well-being will continue to decline. Immediate placement is needed with an experienced adopter or New Hope Partner who can provide time and space to decompress in a calm, supportive home. Placement needed by close of business 9/28/26. Through fence: loose wiggly body, crouched, low tail wag, sniffed other dog well through fence, disengaged on her own, solicited attention, laid head on lap. On-leash: loose but crouched body when explored yard, tensed when sniffing other dog, loosened across greetings, followed other dog around yard, shied away when other dog attempted to initiate play, solicited attention from handlers, leaned on handlers. Off-leash: explored yard staying near handlers, sniffed other dog with neutrality, moved away when other dog tried to initiate play, solicited attention from handlers. Dog met: Kazaam (A5169906) 9/21/2026 Dog observed trying to jump out of kennel. Handler moved dog into covered kennel. Dog allowed handler to leash by hand. Dog went into new kennel with no issues.
