Pit Bull Terrier
We do not know what happened to Ocean
The date this shelter listed for Ocean has passed. Shelters often push these dates back, and many pets are adopted or pulled by a rescue first, so Ocean may still be there. The shelter can tell you.
Ocean is an adoptable male Pit Bull Terrier looking for a home at Philadelphia Animal Care and Control in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is fully grown and large in size. He is listed on the shelter's euthanasia list, listed due to lack of space, and that date has now passed. Shelters often move these dates, so Ocean may still be waiting. The shelter can confirm.
Ocean ACCT-A-241801 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to length of stay and lack of space for incoming dogs. Ocean must have confirmed placement with a RESCUE PARTNER or ADOPTER by Wednesday, October 14th 2026 at 10AM. Should Ocean's medical or behavioral status change, his urgency and timeline for placement may also change. Meet Ocean! This big, handsome boy is ready to make a splash in your life! With his sweet personality, playful spirit, and love for affection, Ocean is a wonderful mix of fun-loving goofball and cuddly companion. This 77-pound sweetheart enjoys spending time with his people, leaning in for pets, and soaking up all the back scratches he can get. He's a big fan of toys, especially the squeaky kind, and loves chasing balls and showing off his playful side! Ocean is easy to leash and generally walks well, enjoying plenty of opportunities to sniff and explore his surroundings. He's happy to receive pets and handling, takes treats nicely, and is even willing to learn the rules of a game when there's fun to be had! During a recent meet, he showed off his playful personality and did well with toy trades, proving that a little guidance can go a long way. Whether you're up for a game of fetch or a relaxing evening on the couch, Ocean would love to be part of the fun. Ocean previously lived in a home with cats and was described by his former family as friendly with children and strangers, crate trained, and housebroken. He can become vocal and excited when he sees other dogs, so he'll appreciate a family willing to help him navigate those encounters with patience and positive reinforcement. With thoughtful introductions and continued guidance, Ocean has plenty of potential to keep building his skills and confidence. If you're looking for a big-hearted companion with a playful side, a love for squeaky toys, and plenty of affection to give, Ocean might just be your guy! He's ready to trade shelter life for cozy naps, fun adventures, and a family to call his own. Could Ocean be the missing piece to your family? Color Level: Exp Gold Per staff 10/9/26 (Regarding meet with Zoidberg): Forward, friendly, sniffed, attempted to Mount. Did a walk along first Per staff 10/5/26: Overall, Ocean was a sweet and playful boy for his meet! Easy to leash and walk through kennel. He did better walking by dogs when I walked between him and the kennel, but wasn't difficult by any means even if he was on the closer side. I've taken him out previously so I knew that he was VERY playful. He was a bit snatchy with toys, but as soon as the adopters started to instruct him to sit before throwing it he got with the program. Allowed handling with the toys and permitted trades without concern. Didn't rip up stuffies, but did know how to get into the toy bin. Per volunteer 10/2: This 77lb boy did very well on leash as seen in his video. He wasn't very interested in treats but really enjoyed chasing and chomping on big squeaky toys. He came in for pets and enjoys back and butt scratches and will lean in to you for more. Per staff 9/22/26: Attempted another dog meet with ocean. Coming out of kennel He pulls hard towards the other dogs kennels. Needed to keep him on a shorter leash. Brought to the yard to start with a fence meet. When he saw June from about 30 feet he did a high pitch bark/howl. Ran quickly to the fence barking, prey bowing with a high tail. Was not eating the high value treats i had. Needed to use leash pressure to move away from fence. At about 20 feet he was able to disengage and eat treats. Tried to do a parallel walk, however he became pulling hard and due to the wet pavement from the rain and the ppe i did not feel comfortable continuing. Per volunteer 09/16/2026: Kennel presentation: Ocean was lying on his bed when I approached. He slowly got up and made his way to the front of his kennel. He allowed leashing with no issues and happily hopped out. Leash skills: Ocean pulls minimally to moderately on leash but walks fairly well overall. He appears to be housebroken or is trying to maintain his housebroken behavior. He enjoys sniffing and exploring his surroundings. Sociability: In the yard, Ocean was somewhat aloof and seemed more interested in sniffing and exploring than interacting with me. However, when handled, he allowed all-over handling and remained loose and wiggly with mid-level tail wags. He did not accept any treats from me. Toys and play: Ocean loved playing with the Wiggle Giggle Ball! He happily chased the ball when I threw or rolled it and seemed to really enjoy the game. Dog interactions: No dog meets were conducted. However, when passing other dogs or seeing them through the fence, Ocean became vocal and reactive. Returning to kennel: Ocean returned to his kennel without any issues. Color: blue Per staff 9/15/26: Did not make it into playgroup. At the fence tense body, hard barking, growling, hard staring. The ACA mentioned that on the way out there was another dog they passed that started to hard bark at Ocean and Ocean hard barked back. Per owner 9/14/2: Ocean and Bonnie was surrendered by their owner and was described as being kind towards other pets, occasionally have accidents in the home, crate trained, medium energy, has never bitten anyone, walks in pace with owner, likes rawhides, friendly towards children, strangers, cats, and unsure about other dogs. Their ideal home would be with a family where they can be couch potatoes. 1/24/26: Owner reclaimed both dogs Per staff 1/23/26: Dogs stayed very close to each other, appeared to be seeking attention from each other, may be bonded. If at all possible would recommend adopting them together, though owner did not specify they are bonded.
