About Grayson

Grayson is an adoptable male Pit Bull Terrier looking for a home at Philadelphia Animal Care and Control in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is fully grown and medium in size. He is currently on the shelter's euthanasia list with only 3 days left, listed due to lack of space. Adopting Grayson, or even sharing his story, could save a life before it's too late.

Grayson ACCT-A-262120 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to length of stay and lack of space for incoming dogs. Grayson must have confirmed placement with a RESCUE PARTNER or ADOPTER by MONDAY, OCTOBER 19TH at 10AM. Should Grayson's medical or behavioral status change, his urgency and timeline for placement may also change. Grayson came to ACCT Philly on September 18th after being found as a stray. Since arriving, he has shown himself to be a sweet, easygoing guy with low to medium energy. Staff and volunteers describe him as a cuddler who loves pets and treats, and he enjoys taking his time on walks to sniff and explore. In his kennel, he greets visitors from the front with soft eyes and a loose, wagging tail and he allowed all handling with a relaxed body during his behavior evaluation. He can be snatchy with treats, so tossing them is best. In playgroup, Grayson has had appropriate greetings and some good play moments with other dogs. He can get excited during interactions, sometimes attempting to mount other dogs, and earlier sessions included stiffness and raised hackles during greetings. He has also shown tolerance of other dogs and the ability to disengage on his own when he's ready for a break. If you're looking for a sweet companion to share treats, enjoy sniff-filled walks, and spend some cozy time together, Grayson could be your guy! Due to his length of stay, Grayson is urgently seeking placement with a rescue partner or adopter. Per staff 9/21, playgroup: Steer test out of 5: 1 with water and 0 with can. Greeting with hackles raised, high tail, ears back. Trying to mount and was not able to be steered off, handlers removed with leash. Mingled around a bit periodically trying to mount. Per staff 9/21 Kennel Presentation: At the front of his kennel sitting with soft eyes, loose wagging tail, ears back. Took a treat through the bars. Leash Skills: Tried pushing out of kennel, able to leash while keeping the door braced. Came right out once leashed and pulled moderately, mid to high tail, ears back. Went to the bathroom right away outside and stopped frequently to sniff. Sociability: Mainly interested in sniffing around. Would come over for treats with soft eyes and mid level tail wags. Takes treats very snatchy so tossing them is best. Allowed all handling with a loose body, mid level tail wags, ears back. Started to get jumpy and lightly jumped up on me twice, stopped when I moved away and returned to sniffing. Play: No interest in toys. Dog Interaction: n/a Return to Kennel: Walked back pulling mildly with the same body language as walking out. Stopped outside his kennel and hopped in for a treat then busted back out of kennel. Clipped my leash and tossed in a treat, did not go in, needed a treat scatter and leash pressure. Braced the door as I was removing leash, trying to push out. Color Level: Blue Recommendations: Children 10+ due to snatchiness Per staff 9/19, playgroup: Steer test 1/5 with both water and can. Mid to high tail with wide eyes at the gate greetings. Nose to the ground when he came into the yard. Stiff with hackles raised, moving head away when face to face greetings. The longer he was in the yard had stiff bouncy play with Astra. Per finder 9/18: Good with all (strangers/children/animals). Good on leash. Maybe tired. Friendly, cuddly, shy, playful. MEDICAL NOTES: Grayson is currently being treated for an upper respiratory infection (URI) or \"doggy cold.\" URIs are contagious to other dogs, but not to people or other types of animals. -- Due to being significantly overcapacity with animals and higher than usual intake, extensions are unlikely to be granted.
