Pit Bull Terrier (mix breed)
Urgent: 3 Days Left
Scheduled: October 20, 2026
Reason: Lack of Space
Riley Ranger is an adoptable female Pit Bull Terrier looking for a home at Philadelphia Animal Care and Control in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She is fully grown and medium in size. She is currently on the shelter's euthanasia list with only 3 days left, listed due to lack of space. Adopting Riley Ranger, or even sharing her story, could save a life before it's too late.
Riley Ranger ACCT-A-213091 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to length of stay and lack of space for incoming dogs. Riley Ranger must have confirmed placement with a RESCUE PARTNER or ADOPTER by TUESDAY, OCTOBER 20TH at 10AM. Should Riley Ranger's medical or behavioral status change, her urgency and timeline for placement may also change. Meet Riley Ranger! This goofy, energetic girl is back and ready to find her perfect match! Riley is a playful, affectionate pup who loves her people, enjoys a good cuddle, and absolutely lights up when it's time to play. Balls are a favorite, squeaky toys are always exciting, and she's highly treat-motivated, making her a fun partner for training and learning new skills. She knows sit, has picked up new activities quickly, and has shown that she can trade her toys for treats. Her previous family described her as fully housebroken and crate-trained, and she has plenty of enthusiasm to bring to her next adventure! Riley has a big, bouncy personality and can get overly excited, sometimes jumping up on people or grabbing her leash during walks and play. She has responded well to redirection, including being asked to sit for a treat, and she has had many successful outings with staff and volunteers. She has also enjoyed playgroups, greeting other dogs appropriately, engaging in playful bows and games, and taking breaks when she needs them. Because of her exuberant play style and tendency to jump when excited, Riley is recommended for an adult-only home without children. She will benefit from an active home that can provide exercise, enrichment, consistency, and continued positive-reinforcement training to help her channel all that enthusiasm. Riley has been through the shelter and adoption process more than once, and we're hoping to help her find a lasting match this time around. She has so much personality, a love for play, and a sweet, affectionate side that shines when she's comfortable. If you're looking for a fun-loving companion who will keep you moving, make you laugh, and happily join you for games and adventures, Riley Ranger might just be your girl! I had to pause her eval part way through due to an emergency, so her leashing is in two parts: When I first approached she was curled up in a corner, watching with wide, semi hard eyes. She extended her neck to sniff me and the leash, but would not come forward. She flinched when I lassoed her, but did not escalate. Ranger came forward when I stepped back, but was too scared to jump down herself. She retreated when I stepped forward to grab her, and gave me some whale eye, so I took it slow. I touched her sides gently and she flinched and gave me whale eye, but after a minute or two of sitting with her and doing some gentle touches she came forward with some low wags. I had to step away at this point and did not pick her up. When I came back to Ranger's kennel she came forward with time with low wags and softer eyes. She allowed some all over body pets and leaned her head into me. She still tensed up when I picked her up, but did not escalate.' LEASH SKILLS: Pulls minimally HANDLING :In the room Ranger was very sweet, and wanted to hop into my lap right away. SHe gave lots of kisses and low wags and showed what a sweet girl she is. She greeted another staff member with low wags and soft eyes as well. She allowed all handling and enjoyed exploring the room with her nose. Ranger knew 'sit' and took treats very gently. Her puppy manners came out when we played, and she got jumpy and nibbled on my hair! She was still very gentle, and calmed down easily. Ranger showed interest in squeaky toys and chased them around, but didn't take possession. Overall, Ranger is a sweet, timid puppy that opens up a lot once she trusts you! PLAY: Engages in play TOYS: Interest but no possession COLOR LEVEL & ANY RECOMMENDATIONS: Gold Per finder 2/12/25: Riley was found as a stray and was described as being excited, friendly, cuddly, playful, and was noted to be sneezing and malnourished.
