Lucinda
Pit Bull Terrier
Urgent: 2 Days Left
Scheduled: October 18, 2026
Reason: Lack of Space
Lucinda is an adoptable female Pit Bull Terrier looking for a home at Philadelphia Animal Care and Control in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She is fully grown and medium in size. She is currently on the shelter's euthanasia list with only 2 days left, listed due to lack of space. Adopting Lucinda, or even sharing her story, could save a life before it's too late.
Lucinda ACCT-A-261912 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to length of stay and lack of space for incoming dogs. Lucinda must have confirmed placement with a RESCUE PARTNER or ADOPTER by SUNDAY, OCTOBER 18TH at 10AM. Should Lucinda's medical or behavioral status change, her urgency and timeline for placement may also change. Meet Lucinda, a fun-loving girl with a big personality and an even bigger love for playtime! While she can be nervous when faced with unfamiliar situations, Lucinda has a silly, affectionate side that shines once she starts to feel comfortable. She has been known to climb into a person's lap for attention, lean in for affection, and settle beside her favorite people after a busy play session. She also takes treats gently, knows how to sit, and absolutely loves stuffed toys! Whether she's romping around the yard, tossing a toy around, or proudly carrying her favorite plushie back to her kennel, Lucinda brings plenty of entertaining energy wherever she goes. Lucinda is a medium-to-high-energy girl who enjoys getting outside to sniff, explore, and stretch her legs. She can pull on leash when she's excited, so she'll benefit from a little practice and a person comfortable handling a strong, enthusiastic dog. She can also become mouthy with the leash when overstimulated or nervous, and she may need extra patience when being leashed or handled in unfamiliar situations. She's very food-motivated, which can be a great tool for helping her feel more comfortable and redirecting her attention. With consistency, positive reinforcement, and respect for her boundaries, Lucinda has shown that she can settle in and enjoy spending time with her people. Lucinda has shown interest in other dogs and has had some positive, playful greetings, but she can also become pushy and overly intense during interactions. She has struggled when other dogs correct her, so any future introductions would need to be thoughtful and carefully managed. Given her sensitivities around handling and her tendency to become overstimulated, Lucinda is looking for an adult-only home with an experienced adopter who can recognize her body language, give her space when she needs it, and help her navigate new experiences at a comfortable pace. Lucinda has so much personality waiting to shine in the right environment! She's playful, treat-loving, and capable of being incredibly affectionate once she feels safe. She'll do best with someone who appreciates her enthusiastic nature while understanding that she needs patience and guidance as she adjusts. If you're looking for a lively companion to share adventures, playtime, and plenty of stuffed-toy shenanigans, Lucinda may be the girl for you! Videos: *NEW* Meet Timestamped Lucinda! She pulls moderately on leash and seemed very excited to get outside, trying to run forward with her mouth wide open! When we got to the play yard, there was a dog in the playground next to us that was soft barking at her, both clearly wanting to play. For the first five minutes that we were out there, they just ran back-and-forth mirroring each other from their respective play yards- Lucinda had a very loose wiggly body. After the other dog left, she focused on running and romping around the play yard and chasing after toys! She seems to be very interested in stuffed toys and seems to be OK with me approaching them in front of her. Took treats from my hand very gently and showed me that she knows sit. Super energetic girl! Took pets from me when I initiated but they weren't her main focus today- she wanted to play! She carried a toy all the way back to her kennel Per staff 9/23: Helped the nurse PCR Lucinda today. Due to her high energy once out of her crate opted to attempt in her crate first. Took treats gently from the nurse with soft eyes, ears back. With a slow feed of hotdogs through the bars, tolerated the PCR swab with no issues. Per staff 9/22: For her walk tonight, loose wiggly body in her crate, soft eyes, mid tail wags. Easily leashed with my slip lead. Came out and ran around the office than sat by the door. Pulled on leash outside and sniffed around, mid to low tail, ears back. Met Harmony at the fence, mid to low tail wags, good sniffs, moved away with leash pressure and me calling to her. In the yard was at the fence closest to harmony, came over when I called to her loose wiggly body. Played with a ball outside. Walked back inside with the same body language, pulling on leash. In the office started, chewed on her toy laying on her blanket and came over occasionally jumping on her lap, allowing all handling. When it was time to go back into her crate she started to get jumpy and biting the leash. Tossed a treat which she ate and stopped leash biting. Went into her crate for a treat and leash was removed easily by hand. Playgroup 9/22: First dog in the yard. When Astra came into the yard they both were forward in their greetings. Lucinda became over corrective and staff in the yard removed her. Per staff 9/22: When I came into the office this morning, Lucinda was sitting quietly in the crate with wide eyes, furrowed brow, ears to the side and trembling. This was the first time I was interacting with her outside of the kennel. I spoke softly as I approached the kennel, her tail began to low wag. I offered some treats which she took gently, then let her out of the crate. She came out body loose, soft eyes, ears to the side and mid tail wagging. Lucinda came right up to me and solicited pets even put her front paws in my lap while I was sitting in the chair leaning into my body. While I did some computer work, I gave her a toy and spent time playing with it. Playgroup 9/21: Steer Test out of 5: 2 water and 0 can. Good greetings, quick moves, play bows, pushy, trying to get the gentle dogs to play. When she got overcorrected by Leashy, turned around tail low, wider eyes with a closed mouth as handlers intervened. Per staff 9/21: Lucinda hung out in the office today. She would whine in the crate and pawed at the bottom of it for a minuet before laying down. I let her out later on and she had a loose wiggly body as I went to open the door. Clipped a drop leash to her collar with no issues. When she came out had a loose wiggly body and jumped on me before running around. While I was sitting at my desk she came over and gently jumped on my lap resting her front paws along them and rested her chin on my desk. Then laid down next to my chair for a few minuets. She allowed all handling while out. Easily returned to the crate for a treat and leash was unclipped with no issues. Per staff 9/21: For check-in, attempted pig board and a lick mat, she would back out and buck on the leash when the pig board applied pressure. Continued to give me low tail wags and would take treats from, allowing handling, giving occasional stress yawns. Called for another handler who held the leash and I was able to bear hug her. Started to buck when the first vaccine went in. We gave her a second and she continued to come up to me taking treats gently with low tail wags. Bear hugged a second time for the second vaccine which she was bucking during as well. When released she did a shake off and a stress yawn. Per staff 9/21: Kennel Presentation: Laying at the front of her kennel. Sat up when I talked to her with soft wide eyes, ears back, tense body. I offered a treat through the bars which she took gently. Leash Skills: Sniffed the leash when I put it in her kennel. Offered a treat which she ate. Moved the leash closer and she laid down. I made a larger loop and put treats in it, when she ate the treats able to leash her and she came right out. Pulled moderately on leash with low tail, ears back. Sociability: Outside, tense body, tail low, sniffing around. Closed mouth head whipped when the other handler tried to touch her back. Took treats gently and let the other handler gently pet her neck with treats. Inside in the office, shook off and had a looser body, low tail wags, softer eyes. Taking treats gently and knows sit. After vaccinating her, I crouched down and she came over leaned into my legs, looser body, allowed handling. Play: Tossed around a rope toy by herself, loose body, mid to low tail wags, would drop it when I approached. Dog Interaction: n/a Return to Kennel: Set her up in the office, went right into her crate and leash was clipped to remove easily. Color Level: Exp Blue Per staff 9/21: Able to get two vaccines, avoidant of handling, bucking with closed mouth. Food motivated. Per staff 9/20: Sitting on her bed when I approached, wide eyes, ears back, tail low. I tossed in a treat which she ate. Opened the door slightly and put my leash in, she hard barked and backed up with wide harder eyes, tail tucked. Tossed another treat and she ate it, would come forward for treats, and backed up when the leash was present. Tried a treat scatter through the leash and she sat on her bed hard eyes, ears back, tense body, front paw lift and hard barking, staring at the leash. Tried to place the leash closer to her and she did an air snap at it the moved away. Switched to a snappy snare, which she sniffed with a low still tail and tense body. Put some treats in the loop and was able to leash her. Once leashed she flailed for a second before standing at the front of her kennel with wide eyes. Offered her another treat which she ate and went to transition her to my leash, she let out a brief low growl then bucked once when my leash was on her. Once leashed she came right out and walked pulling moderately with her eyes darting, ears pinned back, tense body, tail low and still. Outside she sniffed around briefly with the same body language. Skin crawl, lip lick and moved away with handling. Would come over for treats and took them gently. In dog intake she sniffed around with the same body language. She is food motivated and was sitting for hot dogs from the nurse. Able to scan for a chip with a treat scatter, the scanner did touch her briefly and she closed mouth head whipped. When it was time for vaccines we put cheese on the door which she was eating. When the nurse touched her skin to get ready for a vaccine she head whipped with whale eyes then returned to eating. We tried again and she head whipped with a skin crawl and moved away. Went back up to the cheese and she was no longer eating with her ears pinned back, tail low and still, tense body, tightly closed mouth, whale eyes. We were able to give her barrier quickly and she started to buck back on the the leash. Decided to call it there, walked back to kennel with the same body language as walking out, able to clip my leash while walking. Stopped outside her kennel and needed leash pressure to return. When I came back a minuet later to put her walk sheet back she greeted me with low loose tail wags and softer eyes. Per staff 9/19: When ACA attempted to bring from kennel, Lucinda performed leash biting, tense body, and lunging Per staff 9/18: TTA (time to adjust) - Lucinda, once approached in kennel proceeded to cower in the corner, tense body, whale eyes, lip licking, and when offered a treat, she let out a low growl/whine, went back to resting on cot when I walked away 9/16: Removed one stray dog from front of property ' Due to being significantly overcapacity with dogs and cats and higher than usual intake, extensions are unlikely to be granted.
