Pit Bull Terrier
We do not know what happened to Derek
The date this shelter listed for Derek has passed. Shelters often push these dates back, and many pets are adopted or pulled by a rescue first, so Derek may still be there. The shelter can tell you.
Derek is an adoptable male Pit Bull Terrier looking for a home at Philadelphia Animal Care and Control in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is fully grown and large in size. He is listed on the shelter's euthanasia list, listed due to lack of space, and that date has now passed. Shelters often move these dates, so Derek may still be waiting. The shelter can confirm.
Derek ACCT-A-261609 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to length of stay and lack of space for incoming dogs. Derek must have confirmed placement with a RESCUE PARTNER or ADOPTER by TUESDAY, OCTOBER 13TH at 10AM. Should Derek's medical or behavioral status change, his urgency and timeline for placement may also change. Meet Derek, a handsome, happy boy who has been winning over everyone he meets! This sweet guy has a wonderful mix of playful energy and easygoing charm. He's been described as an absolute joy to spend time with, with volunteers raving about how well he listens, how easy he is to handle, and what a good boy he is. Derek enjoys getting out for walks, is generally easy to leash up and redirect, and has even been described as seemingly housetrained. He's also a smart cookie who is very motivated by treats and eager to engage with his people! When it comes to fun, Derek knows how to make the most of his time outside. He loves to romp around, show off his zoomies, and splash around in the pool! He has a playful side and enjoys interacting with other dogs, making good initial greetings and engaging in bouncy, enthusiastic play. Derek can sometimes get a little carried away and become pushy during play, so he'll need thoughtful introductions, supervision, and an adopter who can recognize when he needs help slowing down and giving his canine friends space. Derek will do best with an experienced dog owner who is not a first-time dog owner and can appreciate his enthusiasm while continuing to work on manners and impulse control. He can get jumpy, especially when excited, and may grab treats a little enthusiastically, so positive reinforcement training and consistent boundaries will help him shine. Based on information provided by his finder, a home without children is recommended. An adopter who can respect his boundaries, provide appropriate structure, and help him settle into home life will be a great match for this lovable guy. If you're looking for a handsome, affectionate companion who enjoys walks, playtime, treats, and spending time with his favorite people, Derek could be your guy! Come meet this wonderful boy and see what everyone has been raving about!
