We do not know what happened to Emerald
The date this shelter listed for Emerald has passed. Shelters often push these dates back, and many pets are adopted or pulled by a rescue first, so Emerald may still be there. The shelter can tell you.
Emerald is an adoptable female Pit Bull Terrier looking for a home at Philadelphia Animal Care and Control in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She is fully grown and medium in size. She is listed on the shelter's euthanasia list, listed due to lack of space, and that date has now passed. Shelters often move these dates, so Emerald may still be waiting. The shelter can confirm.
Emerald ACCT-A-261658 is currently considered urgent and at risk o euthanasia due to length of stay and lack of space for incoming dogs. Emerald must have confirmed placement with a RESCUE PARTNER or ADOPTER by TUESDAY, OCTOBER 13TH at 10AM. Should Emerald's medical or behavioral status change, her urgency and timeline for placement may also change. Meet Emerald! This beautiful girl is a sweet, gentle soul with so much to love! Emerald is a treat enthusiast who knows that snacks make just about everything better. She may be a little shy when first meeting new people, but with some tasty treats and a kind approach, she starts to show off her lovely personality. Once she feels comfortable, she enjoys attention and has even been known to nudge a hand when the pets stop! Emerald is a well-mannered walking buddy who enjoys getting outside to sniff around and explore. She walks nicely on leash, knows 'sit,' and takes treats gently. She also seems to be doing her best to keep her space clean, which is always a plus! While she might need a little encouragement to leave her cozy kennel at first, she gets going with some patience and positive reinforcement. Emerald has shown some adorable interest in other dogs, including offering playful bows through a fence to a canine friend. She's a softer, more sensitive girl who will shine with someone willing to let her settle in at her own pace. With a little patience, plenty of encouragement, and a stash of delicious treats, Emerald could make a wonderful companion. Could this lovely girl be the emerald in your crown? Videos: Na'vi and Emerald Meet: Emerald loves cuddling and toys: Emerald fence meet with June!: Some pets for Emerald!: Playgroup 9/14: Behavior Notes: Walksheet notes: 9/14 - low energy, neutral in playgroup 9/17 - low energy, needed to close divider and use a treat lure to leash, nervous girl, go slow, food motivated 9/20 - low energy, skittish, loves treats, loves her kennel - feels safe 9/21 - low energy, sweet girl, very shy, loves treats, move slow 9/27 - low energy, sweet, shy, good on walk and on leash 9/28 - low energy, cute play bows through fence at other dog 9/30 - very good girl 10/1 - love her 10/3 - obsessed 10/3 - good girl 10/4 - good on walk and on leash 10/4 - medium energy, good girl Per staff 10/8: Came to the front of the kennel when I called to her with soft eyes, ears back, loose body. Took a treat through the bars. Tried to push out slightly, able to leash and came right out. Walked pulling manageably strong on leash. In the yard allowed all handling, leaning into me with a loose body. Jumped on me gently twice. Met Na'vi, play bows at the fence, good greetings, helicopter tail, butt flirted and Na'vi did a correction. Walked back loose body. Once in the kennels lower body, tail low, went right into kennel and leash was removed by hand. Leveling down to exp gold. Per volunteer 9/28: \"Sweet Emerald is currently back in ISO. I opened the kennel door, but she didn't move from her bed, so I tossed her hot dog pieces, and she liked them. She looked shy, but had no concerning behavior so I stepped in and looped her. Once the leash was on, she came forward and we walked outside with no issues. She was not difficult walking, and once we reached the grass, she relieved herself. She relieved herself again inside the yard, so she seems to be a dog that's trying to stay housetrained. In the yard, she did a nice shake off. She knows sit and was gentle taking treats. She was a little shy, and she had no interest in the toys. I was able to give her some pets, but she didn't come to me for any. She was very interested in the dog, June, in the other yard. When they initially met through the fence, Emerald had the greatest helicopter tail. Before we left, we allowed a little play time in the aisle between the two ISO yards. She gave some nice playbows to June, and both were very polite, no lunging, no barking. I had no difficulty walking across the parking lot or returning her to her kennel. She's a beautiful girl and was very well mannered with me in the yard.\" Per volunteer 9/21: \"Emerald was ALMOST too scared to come out of her run. She would come up for treats but kind of shy away from the leash. I got the impression this was more because she remembered that last time she was taken out of her run she was anesthetized and spayed and she did still seem to be dealing with some discomfort from the surgery. She did let me leash her and then came out willingly and even though she was trembling (again, I think this was a combination of pain and stress vs just stress) and then she was actually very brave for her massage. Because her back and abdomen were sensitive from the procedure, I placed the Assisi Loop over this area to help with pain and promote healing. She relaxed after this and let me do more massage on her with much improved comfort re: touch in that area. She was able to relax and then was easy to return to her kennel--once she was back in the kennel she wagged her tail quite a bit! So proud of her!\" Per volunteer 9/20: Emerald was curled up on bed. I closed the divider based on notes of hesitation to leave kennel and Emerald woke up a little startled. Looked at me with soft eyes and got off the bed very quickly for treats that I threw. Very, very food motivated, but still needed leash pressure to get out of kennel. Appears house trained. Skiddish. Good fence meet - very loose and a vocal played ( barking for dogs attention). Was very excited to go back to kennel- safe space. Per staff 9/17: Kennel Presentation: Laying on the bed sleeping when I approached. Called her name softly and she got up remaining on the bed. Eyes wide/soft, ears to the side and tail down slowly wagging. Took treats from me. Leash Skills: When I opened the door she retreated to the back side of her kennel. Attempted to treat lure to the front side. I had to close the main door and wait for her to come forward to close the guillotine door. Took about a minute to treat lure to leash up. Came out of kennel slowly with wide eyes, ears to the side and tail down. Sociability: Came over and sat on the bench with me. Allowed all handling. Very food motivated. Nudged my hand a few times when I stopped petting. Play: n/a Dog Interaction: n/a Return to Kennel: Went right into kennel and removed leash with hand. Color Level: Blue Playgroup 9/14: Steer test 1/5 with water and 0/5 with can. Drooling. ears to the side and mid tail not moving. Moving away. Appropriate corrected when brown boy attempted to mount. The longer in the yard when any dog would approach she would snarl and growl Per finder 9/13: The police brought two 'vicious' dogs to ACCT after being found chained together without an owner. They described them as being fine while in their care. ' Due to being significantly overcapacity with dogs and cats and higher than usual intake, extensions are unlikely to be granted.
