Pemmi

Pemmi is an adoptable male Pit Bull Terrier looking for a home at Philadelphia Animal Care and Control in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is fully grown and medium in size. He is currently on the shelter's euthanasia list with just one day left, listed due to lack of space. Adopting Pemmi, or even sharing his story, could save a life before it's too late.

Pemmi ACCT-A-263721 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to length of stay and lack of space for incoming dogs. Pemmi must have confirmed placement with a RESCUE PARTNER or ADOPTER by SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 1ST at 10AM. Should Pemmi's medical or behavioral status change, his urgency and timeline for placement may also change. Pemmi is a sweet, treat-motivated boy who loves getting outside to explore all the interesting smells around him! He's a strong guy with a medium energy level who enjoys sniffy walks and running around in the yard. Pemmi already knows some fun tricks, including sit, paw, and high five, and he's happy to show off his skills for a tasty reward. Staff and volunteers have described him as gentle with treats when offered directly, tolerant of handling, and affectionate when he feels comfortable. He has been known to lean into people for attention and even roll over to show off his belly! Pemmi can pull on leash, so his future adopter should be prepared to help him build good walking habits and manage his strength. He has also shown tension and reactivity around other dogs, including hard barking and pulling toward them, so he will need careful management and a home where he can comfortably maintain distance from other dogs. Due to these behaviors, Pemmi would not be a good fit for an apartment or a home with narrow hallways and close corridors, where encounters with other dogs may be difficult to avoid. Any introductions to other dogs should be approached thoughtfully, as he may remain focused on them even after initially disengaging. Pemmi has so much to offer someone who appreciates a strong, curious companion and is willing to work with him at his own pace. He's looking for an experienced adopter who can provide a suitable living environment, consistent guidance, and plenty of opportunities to sniff, explore, and show off his impressive treat-powered tricks! Per staff 10/27 (Regarding meet with Star): Forward greetings with ears forward, tense body and hard eyes. Able to sniff and be sniffed. Disengaged on his own, however he would pull hard towards star again. Walksheet notes: 10/4 - medium energy, playgroup 10/6 - low/medium energy, knows sit and paw, good dog interactions 10/7 - medium energy, walks well on leash but stops to sniff and pee a lot. Loved running in the yard, very treat motivated 10/9 - medium energy, sweet, strong boy 10/11 - medium energy, used the restroom right away, lots of sniffs and pees, gentle with treats 10/12 - medium energy, such a polite boy, pulls a bit on leash 10/16 - no issues 10/19 - medium energy, great walk, strong boy, sweet dog 10/22 - medium energy 10/23 - medium energy, strong, gentle, not interested in pets, takes treats gently, mild pulling on leash 10/26 - medium/high energy, strong boy, nice walk Per volunteer 10/12: Greeted me with a wiggly, loose body and ears perked up forward. As soon as I opened the door, he tried to barge out of it, pushing out with his nose. I held the door sturdy with my knee and was able to leash him on the first try. When we first got out of his kennel, he fell right over on his side so wasn't sure if he had some balance issues. The rest of the time he was fine. He pulled quite a bit on leash so I would recommend a harness. He is very treat motivated and showed me that he knows sit and paw! When I held treats out above him, he tried to snatch them and was pretty chompy with it, then when I held them out to him directly, he takes them very politely out of my hand. Some minimal interest in toys however not overly interested. He was much more interested in finding all this interesting smells! Stepped right back into kennel with no issues. Per staff 10/8: Kennel Presentation: Laying on his bed when I approached, came to the front with soft eyes, loose body, ears back. Took a treat gently through the bars. Leash Skills: Easy to leash and came right out. Walked pulling moderately, high tail, ears back, stopped frequently to sniff outside. Sociability: Would come over when called or for treats with a loose body and leaned into all handling with a loose body, mid tail wags, ears back, soft eyes. Rubbed his head on my legs and his body when I stopped. Rolled over on his back showing me his belly with mid tail wags and soft eyes. Takes treats gently, knows sit and high five. Got lightly jumpy one time outside, I moved away and he stopped. Play: n/a Dog Interaction: Walked past some dogs in yards on the way out. Pulled towards them tense body, high still tail, hackles raised and hard barked. Easy to keep moving with calling to him and leash pressure. Return to Kennel: Walked back pulling mildly, hopped right into his kennel and leash was removed by hand. Color Level: Exp Gold Per staff 10/8: Came right up to greet me in exam room with loose body language. Very food motivated and takes treats gently from hand. Knows sit, paw, and hi five. Tolerated all handling, exam, and treatments. Playgroup 10/4: High tail, eras back, hackles raised, low growled at one of the dogs at the fence. With greetings in the yard, tense body, put his head over the other dogs neck and started low growling with a tense still body. Handlers intervened and he was hard barking and pulling towards the other dogs while being removed.
