Dutch
Pit Bull Terrier (mix breed)
Urgent: 3 Days Left
Scheduled: November 3, 2026
Reason: Lack of Space
Dutch is an adoptable male Pit Bull Terrier looking for a home at Philadelphia Animal Care and Control in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is fully grown and medium in size. He is currently on the shelter's euthanasia list with only 3 days left, listed due to lack of space. Adopting Dutch, or even sharing his story, could save a life before it's too late.
Dutch ACCT-A-264087 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to length of stay and lack of space for incoming dogs. Dutch must have confirmed placement with a RESCUE PARTNER, FOSTER, or ADOPTER by Tuesday, November 3rd 2026 at 10AM. Should Dutch's medical or behavioral status change, his urgency and timeline for placement may also change. Dutch is a very sweet, social boy who loves attention, treats, and spending time with his people! He has a medium to high energy level and enjoys getting out for walks and playtime. Dutch is often a wonderful leash walker with little to no pulling, although he can get excited and pull a bit when he's extra eager to explore. He is easy to leash and generally returns to his kennel without any issues. He is also reported to be very housetrained! Dutch is a playful, affectionate guy who loves pets and will happily lean into you for attention. He enjoys toys, especially rope toys, and is very treat-motivated, making him a great candidate for continued training. He already knows cues like sit, stay, paw, and shake! Dutch can get jumpy and a little mouthy when excited, and his play style can be rough and rowdy at times, but he responds well to redirection and can settle down with guidance. Because of his enthusiastic play style, a home with children ages 10 and up is recommended. Dutch has been doing well in dog playgroups, where he has shown good greetings, mingled comfortably with other dogs, and enjoyed exploring the yard. He can occasionally attempt to mount other dogs but is generally able to be redirected. If you're looking for a fun-loving, affectionate companion who will happily soak up your attention and learn alongside you, Dutch could be your guy! Walked nicely on the leash, no pulling Yes, I handled the dog. Super sweet, a little rough and rowdy with play - but easy to settle him back down. Leans in for pets and seeks out handler in yard. Walked right into kennel and unleashed without issue Playgroup 10/12: Steer Test: 2-3/5 with water and 0/5 with can. Good greetings, mingled around, would try to mount and able to be steered off. Per volunteer 10/12: I grabbed Dutch from play group where they said he's been doing very well. Took him to a play yard to get some behavior notes. First thing I noticed is that his leash walking is amazing with really barely any pulling! When we got to the play yard, I sat on a bench and he came over and jumped up on it with his front paws, taking pets from me all over. Sometimes he does a little bit of a muzzle punch with an open mouth however body language remain remains loose and it seems like he's soliciting attention. Showed some interest in toys, especially a rope toy that he found. Met a new handler in the volunteer office and jumped up to grab the treats out of his hand as well with a loose wiggly body. Definitely jumpy and just needs some training for it however such a sweet boy! He's very treat motivated so a great candidate for training. Met multiple new handlers in the volunteer office and took pets all over. Really social boy just needs some training for how to solicit attention! Easily went back into kennel for unleashing Playgroup 10/11: Steer Test: 2/5 with water and 1/5 with can. Good greetings, mingled around, interested in sniffing the other dogs. Good gate greetings. loose body, mingled around the yard. Moves away on his own. Did attempt to mount Per staff 10/7: Kennel Presentation: At the front of the kennel with soft eyes, ears to the side, loose body and mid tail wagging. Leash Skills: Easy to leash and came right out of the kennel. Mildly pulled on the leash. Sociability: Did not get much handling due to bringing out for playgroup. However body remained loose when touching when I had to change the leashes. Play: n/a Dog Interaction: in playgroup 10.7 Return to Kennel: ACA brought him back and reported no issues. Uses slip clip. Color Level: Exp Gold Playgroup 10/7: Tense greetings, moving away on his own. With time opened up with a looser body and mingled around. Handler oriented. Per staff 10/6: retrieved stray dog in a harness from caller's porch. Harness had an extension cord and a rope looped through the ring on the back, though was not tethered to anything ' Due to being significantly overcapacity with dogs and cats and higher than usual intake, extensions are unlikely to be granted.
