Choco
Pit Bull Terrier
Urgent: 3 Days Left
Scheduled: November 3, 2026
Reason: Lack of Space
Choco is an adoptable male Pit Bull Terrier looking for a home at Philadelphia Animal Care and Control in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is fully grown and medium in size. He is currently on the shelter's euthanasia list with only 3 days left, listed due to lack of space. Adopting Choco, or even sharing his story, could save a life before it's too late.
Choco ACCT-A-264152 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to length of stay and lack of space for incoming dogs. Choco must have confirmed placement with a RESCUE PARTNER or ADOPTER by TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 3RD at 10AM. Should Choco's medical or behavioral status change, his urgency and timeline for placement may also change. Choco is a sweet, affectionate boy who came to ACCT P hilly as a stray on October 6th. He is a smart pup who already knows sit and paw, takes treats gently, and enjoys getting outside to sniff and explore. Choco walks with some pulling on leash and would benefit from continued practice with loose-leash walking. He has a very loving side with people, leaning in for pets and even climbing into laps for extra cuddles.'Choco has shown some tension when seeing other dogs through the fence but became more relaxed during another fence meet, where he was able to sniff the other dog and walk alongside them.'Due to his length of stay, Choco is urgently seeking placement with a rescue partner or adopter. VIDEOS: Meet Choco: Choco's Best Army Crawl!: Choco Knows Sit!: Choco Get Pets: Fence Meet with Willa: Choco and Willa Meet: BEHAVIOR NOTES: Per volunteer 10/27: CHOCO HAS MY WHOLE HEART! I'm not supposed to pick favorites, but Choco was hands down my favorite boy of the night! While all the other dogs were barking away in their kennels, Choco was quietly lying down, patiently waiting and hoping it would be his turn to go outside. He allowed me to leash him up without any issues, and off we went! Choco is a strong boy on the leash and could definitely use some practice with loose-leash walking, but after spending time with him, I have no doubt this smart cookie will catch on quickly! And speaking of smart' this handsome boy already knows SIT AND BOTH PAWS! He takes treats SO gently and is such a little gentleman! But what really stole my heart? THE CUDDLES. Choco absolutely melts into you for affection, leaning his whole body in for pets and even climbing into your lap for some extra snuggles. He genuinely just wants to be loved, and I was more than happy to give him every ounce of it. There is something so special about this boy. From his quiet patience in the kennel to his sweet, affectionate personality outside, Choco is truly a gem. I absolutely ADORE him, and I hope someone sees just how special he is and gives him the loving home he deserves. Per staff 10/24: Good through fence with Honeybee. Pulls on leash. Per staff 10/22: Very good boy. Per staff 10/21: Helped a nurse get Choco's PCR. He was laying in his kennel when I approached, came to the front with loose body and soft eyes. Took a treat gently through the bars. Easy to leash and came right out. Walked pulling manageably strong, mid tail wags, loose body. In the yard he had a loose wiggly body and leaned into all handling. The nurse was able to get the mouth swab and he backed up with a lower tail. Took a treat gently from me then approached her and took a treat from her before leaning into her with a loose body and mid tail wags. Walked back pulling, went right into kennel and leash was clipped due to his dinner waiting in his kennel. Per staff 10/21: From a nurse: flagging Choco - nurses went to collect retest PCR in iso; stated he was side eyeing them, fixated on a small dog in a crate, and then began growling and snapping whenever they tried to PCR. They had to put him back in kennel with the leash on as they were unable to get him out. Per staff 10/20: Medium energy. Moderate issues on leash. Loves romps around the yard. Per staff 10/18: Medium energy. Pulls on leash. Added green clip - housetrained. Enjoyed playing with ball. Per staff 10/14: Good boy. Per volunteer 10/12: Sleeping on his bed when I approached. When he heard me, he got up and calmly came to the front of the kennel. I very easily leashed him and he hopped right out of the kennel. He walks with some moderate pulling, and when he finds a smell that he likes he fixates on it and it takes a lot of leash pressure to pull him away from it! Such an angel in the play yard. In the play yard he enjoyed sniffing around for the first few minutes. When I took treats out, he showed me that he's very treat motivated and takes them gently out of my hand! After a while came over to me to solicit out attention and took pets all over with a loose body. Super sweet and laid back boy for me today!! He met a male staff member in the volunteer office and took treats and pets from him. Showed him that he knows sit and great at catching treats. Easily went back into kennel! Per staff 10/9: Kennel Presentation: Laying on bed resting, came to the front and was easy to leash, neutral body language Leash Skills: Pulls hard, head down, ears back, tail slightly higher than middle, pulls straight Sociability: Peed and pooped, sniffing intently along the walk. Tolerant and neutral with body handling. Did not solicit more, much more interested in smelling everything Return to Kennel: Easy Color Level: Exp Gold Recommendations and considerations: No pull harness to reduce pulling Per staff 10/9: Fence meet with Willa: Moderately tense body, tail high, sniffing at fence, loosened up over time, able to sniff and be sniffed, walked back to kennels together. Per staff 10/7, playgroup: Did not make it into playgroup, tense body, high tail, hackles raised, hard staring at the dogs. Started to low growl and hard bark at them and muzzle punched then fence when leaving. Per staff 10/6: Very friendly, knows sit and paw! Per finder 10/6: Friendly. Pulls on leash.
