About Mona

Mona is an adoptable female Pit Bull Terrier looking for a home at Philadelphia Animal Care and Control in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She is fully grown and medium in size. She is currently on the shelter's euthanasia list with only 4 days left, listed due to lack of space. Adopting Mona, or even sharing her story, could save a life before it's too late.

Mona ACCT-A-264231 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to length of stay and lack of space for incoming dogs. Mona must have confirmed placement with a RESCUE PARTNER or ADOPTER by WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 4TH at 10AM. Should Mona's medical or behavioral status change, her urgency and timeline for placement may also change. Mona is a fun-loving, energetic girl who came to ACCT Philly as a stray on October 7th after being found tied up. At about 2 years old, Mona has plenty of puppy-like energy and loves getting outside to run, play with toys, and splash around in the pool. Mona has been described as friendly and cuddly with people. She can be a little unsure when other dogs come up to greet her and has preferred to coexist rather than play. Mona's favorite activity might just be making a beeline for the pool, where she happily spends much of her outdoor time! She also enjoys zoomies, playing chase, and exploring the yard.'Due to her length of stay, Mona is urgently seeking placement with a rescue partner or adopter. Treat motivated, sits for treats, eager to socialize with new people. Per volunteer 10/25: Mona was excited and very jumpy in the kennel. Difficult to leash due to jumping. Pulls on leash slightly. Went right for the pool once in the yard. Likes toys. Not interested in treats when trying to leash her or in the yard but likes the peanut butter milk bones once back in kennel. She was hesitant to go back into the kennel but went in once I stepped in with her. She spent most of the time outside in the pool. Per staff 10/11: Kennel Presentation: Laying on her bed when I approached, came to the front with low tail wags and ears back. Took a treat gently through the bars. Leash Skills: Started to wiggle when I opened the door to put my leash in and attempted to push out of kennel once then backed up. Able to leash and she came right out. Walked pulling moderately, body low, head low, tail low, ears back. Once outside, looser body, low tail wags, ears back. Sociability: Would come over for treats, allowed all handling with low tail wags, ears back, soft eyes, moved away when I stopped. Would crouch down and flinch with wide eyes and ears pinned back when I stood up from crouching down. Then came over with low tail wags and wide soft eyes. Took treats gently and knows sit. Dog Interaction: Met another dog at the fence, low tail wags, ears pinned back, wide eyes and moved away when I called to her. Return to Kennel: Walked back with the same body language as walking out. Stopped outside her kennel for a brief second then hopped in on her own. Leash was removed by hand. Color Level: Exp Gold Per staff 10/9, playgroup: Came into the yard and went right into the pool. Ears back with tail down. Barred teeth at two different dogs who came up to her face to face. Very gentle and dainty. Per staff 10/8, playgroup: Good greetings at the fence. Came in running with a looser body. As the other dogs joined in chasing her her tail went low and she laid down with a tucked tail and ears back. Had some good greetings with other dogs and moving away. Occasionally ran around then would hop in the pool when the other pups joined in. Laid down with another dog who got on top of her and handlers moved them away. Brought in later on with a calmer group and had some good greetings then remained near the gate. Per finder 10/7: Fine with men, very friendly lots of puppy energy with strangers, senior dog makes the dog playful. Walked on leash a bit but walks good, it's a bit scared. No bite or scratch, still lots of puppy energy, some mouthing but not really biting. Friendly, cuddly, scared, quiet, when left alone or tied up super barky, when crated also barks a ton. -- Due to being significantly overcapacity with animals and higher than usual intake, extensions are unlikely to be granted.
