About Oakley Glasses

Oakley Glasses is an adoptable female Pit Bull Terrier looking for a home at Philadelphia Animal Care and Control in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She is fully grown and medium in size. She is currently on the shelter's euthanasia list with only 3 days left, listed due to lack of space. Adopting Oakley Glasses, or even sharing her story, could save a life before it's too late.

Oakley Glasses, ACCT-A-264446, is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to length of stay and lack of space for incoming dogs. Oakley Glasses must have confirmed placement with a RESCUE PARTNER or ADOPTER by Thursday, November 5th at 10AM. Should Oakley's medical or behavioral status change, her urgency and timeline for placement may also change. Meet Oakley Glasses, a sweet, gentle older girl who believes the best things in life are tasty snacks, leisurely strolls, and stopping to sniff absolutely everything! This lovely lady arrived at ACCT Philly on October 9th after being found as a stray. She was described as friendly but scared, and although her start at the shelter wasn't easy, Oakley has been showing everyone what a wonderful companion she can be. If you're looking for a dog who doesn't require a marathon before breakfast, Oakley might just be your soulmate! Volunteers consistently describe her as a fantastic leash walker who enjoys taking her time to investigate the neighborhood. She's an easygoing, lower-energy girl with an independent streak, making her an appealing match for someone who appreciates a relaxed pace. Think peaceful neighborhood strolls rather than training for the Olympics! Oakley is also a very smart cookie, especially when actual cookies are involved! She's incredibly food motivated and has even learned to navigate the A-frame obstacle. Apparently, the secret to unlocking Oakley's hidden talents is a well-stocked treat pouch! Volunteers & staff have called her sweet, loving, gentle, and friendly. She has repeatedly shown excellent manners during walks, with no issues entering or exiting her kennel and no shyness, jumping, or mouthiness observed during several recent outings. And there's more to love! Oakley has participated in multiple doggy playgroups, where she's demonstrated friendly greetings, loose tail wags, and an ability to mingle with other dogs. She's generally tolerant of her canine companions and comfortable moving away to do her own thing. Oakley isn't necessarily looking to be the life of every party, but she certainly knows how to make an introduction! Oakley does have some medical needs that her future family should understand, including a heart murmur, skin and subcutaneous masses requiring further evaluation, and an elevated liver enzyme. She may also have some hearing loss, so secure walking equipment and thoughtful handling are recommended. These considerations don't take away from the wonderful qualities that make Oakley special. This sweet girl has so much to offer: gentle companionship, easy walks, a clever mind, and a personality that's equal parts independent lady and enthusiastic snack connoisseur. A comfortable place to land, someone who appreciates her gentle spirit, and perhaps a generous supply of treats would make for a pretty wonderful next chapter. The condition(s) may have been observed in a shelter setting or in a previous home. ACCT Philly cannot guarantee the health of any animal after they have been adopted and adopters are strongly encouraged to establish a relationship with a veterinarian if one does not already exist. Condition(s) Noted: - SQ/dermal masses: ideally advise FNA of masses to obtain diagnosis and determine if surgical excision and biopsy is needed. This is currently beyond shelter capacity to perform. - ALP (liver enzyme) elevation: Consider abdominal ultrasound vs recheck BW for ALP elevation, pt currently not symptomatic for any liver related issues - This pet has been diagnosed with a heart murmur which, depending on grade, may or may not present long term health implications or require ongoing care. ACCT Philly recommends following up with a veterinarian to come up with a long term management plan. The condition(s), to the extent information is available, is documented within the medical records provided at the time of adoption and have been explained by the ACCT representative facilitating the adoption. The shelter's resources are limited and as such ability to diagnose conditions also limited. A private veterinarian may determine the diagnosis is different, more severe, or more complex than diagnosed by ACCT Philly. The condition may require ongoing care which may be costly and/or lengthy and ACCT cannot reimburse for any costs.
